I think I had culture shock when I arrived at Playa del Carmen. As one of Mexico’s biggest tourist resorts, it was way cleaner and more American looking than anywhere I’d been in the past few weeks. I had total mixed emotions – it was kind of exciting to be somewhere touristy, but also sad to leave Belize and Guatemala behind!
Anglesea isn’t the most glamorous of Victorian beach towns. It doesn’t have the exclusive vibe of Portsea, the latte community of Sorrento, the surf cred of Torquay or the excitement of Lorne. What it does have it absolutely stunning natural surroundings and a peaceful and friendly community.
Packing can be a nightmare or a breeze. These are my tips and tricks for getting everything packed neatly and keeping your bag light before your next overseas trip! I’ve travelled with both suitcases and backpacks, and find that at the end of the day packing them is pretty similar.
Nusa Lembongan is a small island off the coast of Bali. We had three nights there after staying in Ubud for four nights. My reasons were choosing it were pretty simple – I wanted to go to the Gili Islands but couldn’t justify the long boat ride there and back for a three night stay. I wanted to go snorkeling and paddle boarding, and I wanted to get away from the crowds. Plus it was just a 30 minute boat ride from Sanur.
I love cooking. I love eating. The number one thing I wanted to do in Ubud, Bali was a cooking class.
I read every Tripadvisor review of every cooking class in Ubud, and then once we arrived I just abandoned all my previous thoughts and let our hotel book us into one. They chose extremely well, because we ended up with the highly rated Payuk Bali Cooking Class.
Ubud is the first place you should think of visiting on your next trip to Bali.
Occasionally I just want to win at things. Last year Jetstar had an $88 sale to Bali. I knew I could get those tickets, even though everyone on the Jetstar Facebook said they didn’t really exist. I went straight onto their app because their website was down. The app crashed between every single section of the transaction, but I eventually made it all the way through the multitude of options and received a confirmation email. Eight days in Bali in February.
The first time you visit London you’re usually blown away. It’s like stepping into your television, where everything looks familiar in some way but you can’t quite believe it’s real. You’ve seen those buildings before, you’ve watched your favourite TV characters walk down those streets, and those shops and restaurants look mighty familiar. But you’re actually here, this is reality, and those accents are definitely the real thing.
